Throughout the 11 years of their existence, Cruxen and Curi have learned how to productively and successfully take control of every aspect of a band’s universe themselves, without getting lost in it: from running their own professional recording studio, the internationally renowned Dissenso Studios in São Paulo, to running their own record label, to booking their own tours and collaborating with like-minded artists, record labels and producers across the globe.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFor „\u003cem\u003eGehenna\u003c\/em\u003e“, they invited producer legend Billy Anderson, known for his works with MELVINS, NEUROSIS, FANTOMAS or the SWANS, to Brazil. But the 9 days with Anderson were not free from trouble. „We tracked drums, bass and guitars live, and used the emergency stairs as a reverb chamber, which was really cool“, comments Curi. „But on the 2nd day and on the first take of the first track, the studio’s console broke down.“ The band kept their chins up and replaced the broken desk. The result of Billy Anderson’s 9 days in Brazil is an atmospherically dense and massively heavy instrumental record. The album features 10 tracks, and one of them, “Locrus”, is a collaborative effort with the Belgian guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove (AMENRA \/ SYNDROME).\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLABIRINTO\u003c\/strong\u003e have toured extensively, and they were the first band from South America to be invited (twice) to the genre-defining Dunk! Guitarist Erick Cruxen and drummer Muriel Curi, a long-married couple, have learned how take control of every aspect of the band’s universe themselves: from running their own record label to booking their own tours to running their own recording studio, the internationally renowned Dissenso Studios in São Paulo.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe band flew in Billy Anderson for the prodcution of previous album „Gehenna“. This time, Cult Of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg was hired, but the entire production happened via the internet, exemplary for this time we live in, without Magnus ever setting foot on Brazilian soil. „\u003cem\u003eSince the pre-production phase, Muriel kept in touch with Magnus\u003c\/em\u003e“, Cruxen comments. „\u003cem\u003eWe talked a lot to him about our plans and ideas for the tracking sessions. He did an online support video session during the recording sessions, and we were aligning ideas for technical decisions. He was monitoring the whole recording process, basically. At the end, we sent him the audio files and he mixed and mastered the album at his own Redmount Studios in Stockholm.\u003c\/em\u003e“\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is an album of dense and menacing atmospherics, textural drones carefully layered over and blended into the heavy guitar riffs’s shimmering, beautiful distortion-scapes – and for the first time ever, vocals make their debut on a LABIRINTO album, on opening track „Agnus Dei“. „\u003cem\u003eWe invited Elaine Campos, she’s been singing in Brazilian punk and crust bands for over 20 years\u003c\/em\u003e“, comments Curi. „\u003cem\u003eIt’s a huge pleasure for us to have such a veteran from the punk scene, a feminist and anarchist, guest on the track.\u003c\/em\u003e“\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIt’s clear from the first synth drones inaugurating the opening track that doom lurks on the horizon, that „Divino Afflante Spiritu“ is not going to be a soundtrack to a tropical paradise – it’s a dark, cold record. „\u003cem\u003eThis album has a great emotional weight\u003c\/em\u003e“, explains Cruxen. „\u003cem\u003eIt flourished during a very difficult phase in which we lost a very dear entity. It was a whirlwind of emotions that are materialized whenever we play the songs.
